After some skillful negotiation, we managed to keep Steven out of prison. He was sentenced to 18 months of probation.
Steven was afraid of going to prison. He was looking at a 2-5 year sentence.
Steven C. was driving one night in Coral Springs. He went through a solid red light, was speeding, skidded and almost hit an electric pole. When the police pulled him over and asked for ID, Steven told them he had a suspended driver’s license. The police smelled alcohol and then began a DUI investigation. Steven refused to do the field sobriety exercises and was arrested for DUI. He was taken to the police station, where he failed four field sobriety exercises on video. He then refused the breath test, and unfortunately it was his second refusal in a DUI investigation.
The facts of this case were pretty bad. After conducting a thorough investigation and interviewing the arresting officers, the facts and legal issues were still very much against us. We immediately switched gears to try and mitigate the situation in order to get our client help and keep him out of prison. We got Steven into a rigorous 7 month alcohol and drug outpatient program supplemented with AA meetings.
