We were able to get Derek into a drug diversion program and the charges were dismissed.
Derek was afraid of losing his driver’s license and having to do probation.
Derek C. was on his way to a car meet in Boca Raton, Florida on a Wednesday night when the cops pulled him over because allegedly they thought he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt (even though his windows were down and he was wearing his seatbelt). Once they pulled him over they asked him when he had last smoked weed in the car. Derek answered them honestly and told them it had been a couple of days ago. He also admitted to having a bowl in the car. The cops then made him step out of the car so they could conduct a search of the vehicle. They found nothing in the car other than the bowl, which Derek had already told them about. Derek was then issued a written arrest for weed possession.
Derek had no priors, so we wanted to get him into a diversion program.
