The restraining order was dismissed.
Milagros was served with the restraining order at her job and was almost fired immediately. HR told her that if she lost the hearing they would have no choice but to fire her. As a single mother, she desperately needed her job to support her 10-year-old son.
Milagros B. was attacked by her live-in boyfriend while he was drunk in Tamarac, Florida. She took a baseball bat and hit him with it in self-defense. The police came and arrested her boyfriend. When her boyfriend got out of jail he hired a lawyer and filed a restraining order against Milagros. She didn’t think she needed a lawyer, so she showed up to the hearing without one. During the hearing her boyfriend’s lawyer intimidated her and made her out to be a liar and the aggressor. Before the judge granted the restraining order, Milagros asked for time to hire an attorney. The judge granted her time, and she hired our firm.
We proved that Milagros was acting in self-defense and prevented the restraining order from being granted against her.
