We were able to get Lisa’s charges dropped and herself into a treatment program for her mental illness.
Lisa has suffered severe mental health issues, and she was worried that this would affect her trial and how she was viewed in court. Lisa also just wanted to get help, rather than jail time. She had previously worked for a police department in a civilian role and wanted to have a chance of getting a good job again in the future.
Lisa H. had been in a fight with her boyfriend when she had a mental breakdown and attacked him. Her boyfriend called the police and Lisa was arrested for Domestic Violence and Battery. Lisa’s boyfriend also filed a restraining order against her in light of the incident.
Lisa had been emotionally abused her entire life, so we wanted to show the prosecutors that she was going through a break from reality at the time of the incident. We were able to get the restraining order dismissed since Lisa’s boyfriend just wanted her to stay away. The boyfriend also told us that he did not want Lisa to be charged since she was not herself during the fight. We used this information, as well as a comprehensive plan for treatment for Lisa, as mitigation with the prosecutors.
