We were able to get the charges dismissed and our client Matthew was able to return in peace to his life.
Matthew was a young guy who was looking at spending up to 26 years in prison for something he didn’t even do.
Matthew N. is a young guy driving with three friends in the car with him in Davie, Florida. As he’s driving Matthew sees another kid he went to high school with who owes him money. He pulls up alongside the car (while they’re both driving) and starts arguing with the guy through the window about money. Both vehicles stop at the red light and they get into a verbal argument.
When the light changes the other guy speeds off and Matthew follows him until eventually the two cars split up. The “victim” then calls the police saying that Matthew and his friends threw a wrench and other tools at him and were trying to run him off the road. The cops meet with the “victim” to get his side of the story and then immediately arrest Matthew without asking him or his friends who were in the vehicle any questions. He’s given multiple felony charges that combined have him looking at up to 26 years in prison. Matthew decides to hire our firm.
We meet with Matthew and his friends, and then immediately pull the 911 tape to listen to the call the “victim” made to the cops. The “victim” doesn’t sound scared at all on the phone, and claims that four black males are following him. Meanwhile Matthew is white, and only one of his friends in the car is black. All of these guys knew each other from high school. We took a deposition of the “victim” and made him out to look like a liar.
