Richard got in a verbal altercation with his neighbor in Boca Raton about his dog being let out without a leash. The neighbor started filming the dog with her phone in order to report Richard, which captured Richard walking over and arguing with the neighbor. Another one of their neighbors came over, who got in a physical fight with the woman. As they were fighting, Richard stepped in trying to break up the fight. The woman who was filming him turned and began to physically attack him, and he fought back in self defense order to protect himself. Richard’s neighbors called the police, and Richard was arrested for simple battery.
We talked to the prosecutors while working the case, explaining how Richard was trying to break up a fight, and then was acting in self-defense. We started to prepare for a stand your ground motion but the prosecutors caved and dismissed the charges.
