We were able to get Mirtha’s case dismissed and her record expunged.
Mirtha was visiting her family from Bolivia and was scared that she would get deported. Mirtha was also scared that she would not be able to come back to the country.
Mirtha C. was at a Sears in Boca Raton when she saw two shirts that she liked on display. Mirtha took the shirts and put them into a shopping bag that she brought with her into the store. Mirtha then tried to conceal the bag under her shirt and walk out of the store, where she was stopped by the loss prevention manager. The manager called the police, who then questioned Mirtha about the incident. Mirtha confessed to stealing the shirts, and was arrested and charged with Petit Theft.
Because Mirtha admitted to stealing the shirts, we were able to use this to our advantage. We were also able to get Mirtha into a diversion program, in which she completed promptly.
