Typically, there is a 5 year minimum on Federal Child Pornography Charges.
For our client, Matt N., however — we were able to get the judge on his case to disregard the 5 year minimum and give Matt a significantly shorter sentence.
Now, Matt feels like he has his life back and is feeling much better after going through a treatment program.
Matt was living in fear, afraid of what he was doing, and was scared that this child pornography charge would ruin his relationship with his wife and daughter.
Matt is an elderly man in South Florida who had looked at child pornography for the past 30 years.
Matt had very low self esteem and was living in fear – feeling like he had to keep this secret from everyone that he knew. But he did want help.
Matt downloaded a new site to his computer, unaware that the FBI was monitoring the site. The FBI tracked Matt’s IP address and raided his house at 6 a.m. one day to arrest Matt on federal child pornography charges.
Matt was referred to us by a relative and Rossen Law Firm immediately met with him to discuss his Federal Child Porn Charges in South Florida.
Upon meeting with us, the first thing Matt told us was that he felt relief, and that he desperately wanted to get help.
Because Matt had already admitted everything to the FBI, we got to work putting together a mitigation packet. We immediately got Matt into a treatment center, in which he did exceptionally well.
Then, when we went before the judge and presented the mitigation packet we could prove that Matt got the help that he needed to change, and that resulted in the judge giving a sentence far less than the mandatory minimum of 5 years in Prison. Mandatory minimum sentences are very difficult to get a South Florida judge to depart from, so this was a great result for Matt.
