We were able to get the Fort Lauderdale Insurance Fraud charges dropped against Cameron and Taylor. Now, instead of prison time and a felony, Cameron and Taylor will have a withhold and only have to pay court costs, allowing for their criminal record to be sealed.
Cameron and Taylor were worried about having a felony fraud charge on their record, as well as becoming convicted felons.
Cameron was driving home when he got into a car crash. He realized that his insurance had expired and it wouldn’t pay for the damages, so he called his mom Taylor to figure out what to do. Taylor and Cameron got insurance the following day and reported the incident. In the report, Cameron said that a raccoon jumped out in front of his car and he swerved to not hit it, resulting in the crash. The insurance company called the police as this was suspicious, and Cameron admitted to the detectives that he was lying before hiring a lawyer. Cameron and Taylor were arrested and charged with insurance fraud.
Taylor was living in Michigan at the time, so the police picked her up on a warrant and threatened to extradite her to Florida. We were able to make sure that Taylor would not be extradited and could stay at home.
While talking to the prosecutors, we brought up the fact that Cameron and Taylor did not defraud someone for tons of money, but were just looking for help paying the damages to their car. We were able to work out a deal so the charges got lowered to a misdemeanor for giving false information to a police officer.
