The prosecutors decided not to file charges on Mike and he was able to get the mother of his child better help.
Mike is the CFO of a large company, and has an MBA from Berkeley. Mike was worried that this would affect his career and ruin his reputation. Mike was also worried that his child would be taken away from him, since he was contacted by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Mike K. was with the mother of his child when they got into a minor argument in Parkland, Florida. She had been prescribed to new medicine that she began taking prior to the argument, and was experiencing the serious side effects of mania and hallucinations. The fight continued to escalate and get out of hand when, in an effort to diffuse the argument, Mike grabbed onto her to calm her down. Because she was still experiencing the effects of the medicine and did not feel like herself, the mother of Mike’s child got more upset and called the police. Mike decided to remove himself from the situation, and left their house before the cops arrived. Mike first called a divorce lawyer, who hyped Mike up and said that he could get full custody of his child in court. Mike was confused since he loved his child and his wife, and did not want anything to happen to them. They had just moved there from California six months ago, and Mike was still unaware of the area and how to handle this type of situation. The mother of his child then called us, explaining the situation and how it was blown out of proportion. We told her that Mike needed to call us himself, and we got in touch with him at 8 p.m. Mike returned home and was not arrested, but was charged with Domestic Violence.
Strategy of Attack Domestic Violence Case in Parkland:
We started by getting the cops to back off of Mike, as they threatened to arrest him if he did not provide a confession. Mike was not arrested, and the mother of his child signed a waiver of prosecution detailing how she was not in the right mental state at the time of the argument. An employee from an anger management class tried to trick Mike into enrolling in the class, saying that he would go to jail if he did not. We got in touch with the class and called the bluff, as the class was not mandatory and would have cost Mike thousands of dollars. This allowed us to negotiate with the prosecutors, showing that Mike is a good person.
