First, since Ricardo wasn’t arrested right away, we needed to coordinate a surrender on his terms instead of the police’s. That was done with the aid of our expert bondsmen so Ricardo’s time in jail was minimized. Next, we were able to convince the prosecutor to drop the charges within 30 days. The aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges were completely dismissed.
Ricardo is from Jamaica and had immigration issues. He was concerned with the possibility of going to prison and being deported.
Ricardo B. and his wife were arguing about doing the dishes when she claimed that he approached her with a steak knife and threatened her. She also said that he hit her across the head several times with his fists. When Ricardo stepped out to take a phone call, she went into the bedroom and called the police. When she told Ricardo that she had called the police he put on his shoes and left the house. When the police arrived the officer stated in his police report that there were no signs of bruising or bleeding on the wife.
This was an argument that went bad. Ricardo’s wife did not want him prosecuted and came into our office to retract her story. She said the officers pressured her into exaggerating the details of what happened in a way that made Ricardo out to be the aggressor in the situation.
