When charged with criminal battery by his sister-in-law, Rossen Law Firm was able to talk to the woman and she decided that she no longer wanted to press charges against our client, Nick P.
Nick was able to return to his life as a reputable doctor and put the altercation in the past.
Nick is a doctor, and was scared of the situation ruining his reputation and losing his medical license. Nick was also scared that the cops would believe his sister-in-law, when he did not do anything to hurt her.
Nick and his wife had their family over for Thanksgiving one year. His sister-in-law and her boyfriend were staying with them for the holiday, and they continually disrupted his house and way of living. The two of them were drunk every day, eating all of their food, causing disturbances, and not respecting Nick’s house rules.
Nick even has a work computer that his sister-in-law tried logging into and using without his permission. Nick had enough of the drama, and he kicked them out of his house on Thanksgiving night.
The two of them had an argument outside by her car, which ended with the sister-in-law and her boyfriend leaving and sleeping in a hotel. Nick went about with his life, and did not hear anything from them for more than six months. Suddenly, one day, Nick was served with a summons that there was a criminal battery charge filed against him from his sister-in-law back from Thanksgiving. Nick was blindsided — the prosecutors and cops never called him and he was never arrested.
Nick did not know what to do, so he called Rossen Law Firm to help with his case. Nick’s sister-in-law claimed that he slammed the car door into her leg as she was leaving, and the cops had pictures of bruises that she said she took after the incident. The cops never did a thorough investigation, and they had no proof of when the bruises were from or what caused them. His sister-in-law also did not call the police until a day and a half later, which we were able to use to prove that Nick was not a threat and illustrate that there was no way to prove they were from him.
We continued working on the case, which seemed just like his sister-in-law just wanted revenge. We got sworn statements from Nick’s brother-in-law and mother-in-law saying that Nick got in a verbal argument with the sister-in-law that never turned physical. We began setting up depositions, but the sister-in-law lives in Chicago and knew that she would have to fly down for the depositions and then again for the trial. In the end, she dropped the battery charges.
