We were able to plead the case down from the original attempted murder charge to a fleeing and eluding and tempering with evidence criminal charge, which was resolved with a sentence of probation – not life in prison. Now, Chris can continue on with his life and get help after a poor decision he made in the heat of a moment.
Chris was scared of spending the rest of his life in prison, as attempted murder of a police officer is such a serious charge. Chris was also worried about facing intense consequences after acting in fear without any intent to do harm.
Chris had been struggling with a drug addiction when he went to a house in Miami to make a drug purchase. At the same time Chris arrived, the cops were surveilling the house. As he got back in his car after his purchase, the cops surrounded his car and drew their guns. Chris was very scared and made the poor choice in the moment to drive away.
As he drives forward, a cop on the front right side of his car has to jump out of the way and ends up getting hit by the driver’s side mirror. The police start a long police chase following Chris, trying to get him to pull over. Chris was scared and did not know what to do with the drugs, so he threw them out of his window while driving. The cops were able to puncture Chris’ tires, causing his car to spin out and crash. Chris was arrested for the attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated assault of a police officer, fleeing and eluding, grand theft auto, and tampering with evidence.
Chris was referred to Rossen Law Firm and we were hired immediately. Chris was in on a no bond hold due to the attempted murder charge, so we filed a bond motion right away. We were able to convince the judge that Chris deserves a bond and got Chris released from jail.
After reviewing the case, the case filers agreed with us that Chris did not attempt to murder the police officer and dropped that charge. We continued to work on the case and found that all Chris really did was flee and elude the cops. Chris had no intent to hurt or assault the cop (disproving the aggravated assault charge), and he did not know that the car he was driving was stolen (disproving the grand theft auto charge).
