Within the city limits of Miramar, the Miramar Police Department has jurisdiction. Outside the city limits of Miramar, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office handles complaints, arrests, pressing charges, and more.
Miramar’s Chief of Police is Dexter M. Williams and has 17 command staff responsible for the safety of their residents. Miramar’s city special unit within the police department includes a Victims Services Unit that assists victims with the physical and psychological trauma they endure after victimization. They provide Vacation Patrol if you request home surveillance by the police while away from your home and also provide Homeless Outreach Services.

Sheriff’s Office for Miramar
Outside the Miramar city limits, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office handles all incidents. BSO is led by Sheriff Gregory Tony, who was sworn in January 2019.

Broward Sheriff’s Office DUI Task Force
The Broward Sheriff’s office contains a DUI Unit that specializes in the control and prevention of driving under the influence of Alcohol and Drugs. This specialized unit possesses three separate divisions that include the DUI Task Force, DUI/Breath Alcohol Testing (also known as BAT), and BAT Video. Within each division there are specially trained deputies who work together to enforce DUI Laws, process individuals who are arrested for DUIs, and aim to increase the knowledge surrounding the issues that arise when one drives under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Miramar Court System
Miramar Courts are part of the 17th Judicial Circuit, which encompasses all of Broward County. Any cases that are appealed are handled in the 4th District Courts of Appeal in West Palm Beach.
There are four Broward County Courthouses. The Central Courthouse, North Regional Courthouse, South Regional Courthouse, and West Regional Courthouse are collectively referred to as “the “Broward County Courthouses.”
