Within the city limits of Margate, the Margate Police Department has jurisdiction.
The Margate Police Department has been an official law enforcement agency since 1994. The Margate Police Department consists of 154 sworn officers and civilian personnel. The department is a full-service law enforcement agency that is also responsible for code enforcement and animal control. Margate police department is divided into 4 Bureaus that all handle specific forms of police within each division.

Sheriff Gregory Tony oversees BSO. The Sheriff’s Office has 16 districts. BSO’s services include a Child Protective Investigations Section, a Civil Division and a Department of Law Enforcement. Broward Sheriff’s Office DUI Task Force
The Broward Sheriff’s office contains a DUI Unit that specializes in the control and prevention of driving under the influence of Alcohol and Drugs. This specialized unit possesses three separate divisions that include the DUI Task Force, DUI/Breath Alcohol Testing (also known as BAT), and BAT Video.
